A worked Saturday shift, two awards

Same person, same three hours, two different awards. The Saturday percentage already includes casual loading.

Last updated: 5 November 2026

This guide explains common Fair Work modern award ideas for casual employees. Exact percentages depend on your award and classification. Casual Pay estimates are informational only — not legal or financial advice.

The shift is Saturday, 9:00am to 12:00pm. Three hours. Adult, 21 or over. Classification Level 1. No meal break is due on a shift this short. Rates are the 2026–27 award minima. Nothing else is added: no allowance, no above-award rate, no tax taken out.

Retail

Under the General Retail Industry Award, the Level 1 adult base is $27.81 an hour. Saturday is 150% of that base, and the 25% casual loading is already inside the 150%.

$27.81 × 150% = $41.72 an hour. Three hours is $125.15 gross.

Miscellaneous Award

Under the Miscellaneous Award, the Level 1 adult base is $25.74 an hour. Saturday is 145% of that base, again with casual loading already included.

$25.74 × 145% = $37.323 an hour. Three hours is $111.97 gross.

What the payslip can still differ on

Thirteen dollars is only the award gap on this one shift. A real payslip can also show tax, super, an allowance, or a rate from an enterprise agreement. If the gross line is lower than the award figure for the award that covers you, that is the number to take to your employer. Use the calculator for a shift that is not this example.
